Thank you for visiting us. We are pleased to be able to share our passion for golf and history with you. Breaking 100 was created as a result of a pair of friends and colleagues combining their writing and researching interests with a sport both enjoy and appreciate.

It was the summer of 2019 when award winning author Bryan Davies hosted golf journalist Rick Parnham at his new home in Sault Ste. Marie for a bit relaxation and golf. Rick was reviewing the golf courses of Sault Ste. Marie for a travel article for Northern Ontario. Over the few days together the pair discussed the variety of the golf facilities, all the wonderful aspects of the city and most importantly, the upcoming 100 year anniversary of the Sault Golf Club. The pair uncovered they had an affinity for Stanley Thompson’s architecture and a penchant for storytelling. This was the genesis of the idea to write a book which told the story of the history of the Sault Golf Club.

The pair quickly uncovered a vastly more compelling story that existed if their work expanded beyond the historic club on Queen Street East and told a regional history of the Twin Saults, yet through a unique golf lens. As their research amplified, the pair realized that blending the tales of community building and important figures and events, along with the discoveries found within the development of the golf facilities in the region, made for a diverse storytelling opportunity and one that could reach a greater audience. As a result, Breaking 100 became more than just a book about the history of Sault Ste. Marie and its golf courses. It has become an opportunity for us to engage with the broader golf community linking decades of history together.

Breaking 100 is proud to share our website, blogs  and social media postings bringing our collection of stories about communities, golf and people together. We want to hear from you through our contact page, which provides golfers and clubs alike the ability to share interesting tales and unique stories of past experiences and fantastic memories. Our vision is to continue writing books that model “A Century of Sault Golf,” featuring other regions that have diverse and compelling stories mixed with a wonderful golf culture. Our plan is to write, “A Century of Lake Simcoe Golf,” as our next project, while continuing to network and connect with other courses and clubs who have engaging stories of their own.

Breaking 100 has committed to a mission of philanthropy in its work. Each book project will result in a charitable cause within that community benefitting from a portion of book sales. During the writing of their first book, “A Century of Sault Golf,” Rick and Bryan involved Olympic champion curler and Sault native Brad Jacobs in the project, having Jacobs write the foreword to their book. Team Jacobs have a long standing charitable relationship with the Sault Area Hospitals Foundation and their Neonatal care facilities. Breaking 100 will be providing $5.00 per book purchase to support The Team Jacobs Foundation and the Sault health community. This is a commitment that will happen in each region where a new Breaking 100 book is based.

We are pleased to have wonderful support from the Canadian and local golf community. We are proud to contribute to the sharing of not just a history of our many golf facilities, but equally pleased to help capture the amazing events and people found within the history of the places we live and visit. We are honored to play a small role of recording and passing on the tales of yesteryear for generations to come. We thank our brand partners and those have contributed to our launch. We look forward to you enjoying our work and to hear the stories you have about golf, your towns and your communities.
